Mark Middleton

Mark plays a key role in project work, and has specialist expertise in rail, aviation and metro design projects, as well as wider experience in the leisure and commercial property sectors. During Mark’s six-year tenure as Managing Partner for Grimshaw’s London office he was responsible for a long period of growth; steering the new business strategy and the general commercial performance of the practice.

Since he joined the practice in 1996, Mark has worked predominantly on the completion of large-scale projects that successfully resolve the competing demands of complex technical requirements and stakeholder aspirations. He is currently working on several projects which span the breadth of the transport sector, both nationally and internationally, such as master planning High Speed Rail stations and their associated over-site developments, as well designing new stations at London Bridge → and Reading →. Mark led the concept design for Southern Cross Station → in Melbourne, Australia, which won the 2007 Lubetkin Prize.

Mark’s experience in the aviation sector includes a variety of significant projects, such as contributions to the master plans for new runways and facilities at Stansted → and Heathrow. He led the concept design for the 600m-long pier for Terminal 2B at Heathrow →, and prepared the competition proposal for Terminal 2 at Incheon International Airport →. Additionally, he won the competition for Pulkovo Airport → and prepared proposals for Incheon T2 →

As a peer reviewer for Grimshaw’s designs for the Crossrail → underground railway, Mark is responsible for coordinating all stages of the development. Mark also stewarded the Thermae Bath Spa → project to completion. Aside from his responsibilities as an architect, Mark has an MA in Film, and he acted as Executive Producer for the short films showcased on this website →.

Mark has recently been elected to serve as a board member of the British Aviation Group →.
